Shorter schedules Liberty Day events

Town of Shorter Staff and volunteers have been busy over the last week planning and preparing for the annual Shorter Liberty Day weekend. This year, the event will cover a two day period and is scheduled to occur June 27 and 28.

The weekend of activities will kick-off on Friday after (June 27) with a Chat & Chew Concert. The activity will be held in the Gym at D.C. Wolfe Elementary School. The Chat & Chew Concert will be fully catered and feature live entertainment by Lisa and the E-Lusion Band. (www.lisaandelusion.com) The Chat & Chew is a ticketed activity with limited seating capacity. Tickets for the Concert can be purchased for $20.00 individual or $175.00 for a reserved table with 10 tickets. Casual/Comfortable attire will be appropriate for this activity. There will be space to dance and vendors will be on hand with facials/makeup and clothes and other accessories for purchase.

Day two (Saturday, June 28) will feature the traditional Liberty Day Tailgate activity on the Grounds of the Old Shorter School on Old Federal Road. The day will begin with activity participants grilling, frying fish and having a good time reconnecting with family, friends and the general community. The event will run for the full day and close with the Largest Small Town Fireworks show in Alabama. Shorter Inspirational Voices will also be on hand at the event to sign various patriotic songs. Event planners will also have a DJ on hand playing music throughout the day along with other fun activities for children and adults. Vendors will also be in attendance selling various foods and items that are sure to please.

Admission on Saturday is free of charge to the general public. For those wishing to reserve space at the Old School, there is a small reservation fee of $35.00. Reserve sites will have the ability to set up their sites as early as Friday. General participants will be allowed to set up on Saturday. Tickets for the Chat & Chew Concert and reservations can be purchased at the Shorter Town Hall.
